Hi, I’m Nicole
I live in central Texas with my husband, four kids, two dogs, and a bunny. I’m a wanna-be homesteader, although I have a lot to learn about animal husbandry and gardening.
I cook from-scratch meals, three times a day, seven days a week. Nourishing food has played a huge role in helping our family overcome a variety of health obstacles and it’s something we put a high value on. We LOVE food. We use raw milk, real butter, lots of lard, and organ meat. We make bone broth and homemade tortillas and big feasts on holidays. My sourdough starter is basically my fifth child, and affectionately named “Breada” by my human kids.
I home-educate our kids, and if I were to classify myself, I’d say I’m a mix between Classical Charlotte Mason and unschooling. I love art study and leading phonics lessons, but we’re also quick to fall back on just reading oodles of books and racking up time outside as our main forms of education. I believe life is learning, and there is nothing I love more than bringing my children alongside as we experience the world together.
I’m an artist and a writer. I’m a dreamer. I’m a lover of tangible sensations and intangible ideas. I believe that the world is full of beauty, if we know how to look for it, and that, no matter how we fill our time, there are opportunities for everyday creativity all around us.
My goal is to share that beauty; to show the nitty-gritty, real life struggles, but to also show that there is so much wonder and delight where we are (wherever that is). Cooking, learning, parenting…these all hold opportunities to breath life to our souls. Join me as we seek out those things that are good and true and beautiful and pass on a legacy of hope in a dark world.
